Flow of Consciousness Yao Mikami — Solo Exhibition

An exploration of awareness as movement, not stillness. Through water, ink, indigo and hand on canvas and Japanese paper — bleeding, forming, dissolving.

Not observing change, but becoming it.

Yao Mikami — Dragon Art Exhibition at KURA Japanese Izakaya Gallery, Byron BaY

In Japanese, the dragon — Ryū (龍) — shares its word with “flow” (流). I see the dragon as a messenger between heaven and earth, a graceful force that connects people, moments, and destiny together.

Each piece in this collection carries its own energy and its own message — and I truly believe the right dragon will find the right person.

Come wander in, enjoy KURA’s incredible food and sake, and let the dragons speak to you. I’d love for you to experience this little world I’ve created.

“The power of art” is Luna Moon and Yao Mikami duo art Exhibition.
A mixed-media exhibition based on the therapeutic and healing effects of art. It aims to show both artists’ transformative experiences in a psychological, emotional, and spiritual way. Luna and Yao both believe that art has the power to inspire, heal, transform, challenge, offer hope, and bring positive changes to the human body, mind, and soul.

Exhibition date- 10th – 26th March

Painters are choosing their subject matter from their own interests in human life through their visions. This group exhibition “Journey through Visions” presents 6 different visual realms created by 6 different painters. Our experience of human life is multidimensional, meaning many different perspectives can coexist in the same reality, or many different personas can exist in the same person.Landscape, Mythology, the Animal Kingdom, the Human psyche, Shadow, Pattern, Colour, Emotion and Sacredness.
Each artwork is a representation of the realities that the artists explore through their visions.

“私の絵のイメージは重なり合って展開していく。何にでも見えてしまう抽象性を持つことが、古代人にとっての神の存在の条件だったそう。それが、私にはよく理解できる。岐阜の山、川と共に生まれ育ち、八百万の神、すべてのものに精霊が宿っているという考え方が私の意識にある。だから、私には自然の中に見えない存在が存在しているという概念が備わっている。オーストラリアの先住民も全く同じ考え方をもっている。
層になった岩山や石をみていると、自然と姿、形が見えてくることは、それぞれの人が経験したことのあると思う。
私の絵はそれと同じことを行っている。抽象的な模様を見ていると、姿形が浮かび上がってくる。
自然は私たち人間に生きる土台を与えてくれている。絵を描く画材さえもすべて、自然から与えられたもの。岩、木々、石たちは語っている。私達人間が、自然と共存する術を。すべては理解しきれなくとも、自然の神達が私に教えてくれたことを絵をとおして伝えたいと思う。そのために私は、大自然へ足を趣、見、感じ、なにがそこに存在しているかをとにかく観察しつづけている。”

オーストラリアの土地の色、天然絵具と油絵を使い描かれた、YAOの少し神秘な絵の世界をお楽しみください。

天然絵具を自身で採取し、絵具つくりから制作に取り組むYaoの絵の世界。

自然とのつながりの大切さ、そして見えない世界との関わりを絵画の制作を通し提案している。

“ Story of visions “Yao Mikami Art exhibition

Yao created a body of work during the lockdowns of the last 2 years, when she let herself dive into the story world through her imagination and a visionary state. Yao observes nature and listens to the story. She started using natural pigments as part of her paintings, which gives texture and a direct blueprint of the earth onto the canvas.

Yao grew up in Japan in a Shintoism culture that is based on animism, where all living things have a spirit. You can see this belief in her painting, where all the mystical creatures in the landscape are in the paintings. In this exhibition, Yao is a visual storyteller interpreting what she has heard from nature through her painting process.
